Player profile. Players combine repeated running with close control, passing vision, and rapid choices under pressure. Positional demands differ: goalkeepers organize and protect the goal, defenders manage space and duels, midfielders link phases, and forwards create or finish chances, yet transitions require every line to attack and defend collectively.

Where it happens

The rectangular pitch is organized by touchlines, goal lines, halfway line, center circle, penalty areas, goal areas, corner arcs, and two goals. Those markings do more than locate players: they determine where restarts occur, when the goalkeeper may handle the ball, and when a defensive foul can become a penalty kick.

How to play

  1. Teams pass, dribble, and run to create shots while defending space and the goal. Play restarts through kickoffs, throw-ins, goal kicks, corners, free kicks, or penalties depending on how the ball stopped.

The essential rules

  1. The whole ball must cross the goal line between posts and under the bar to score.
  2. Outfield players may not deliberately handle the ball.
  3. A ball wholly over the touchline restarts with a throw-in.
  4. The offside rule applies when an attacker becomes involved from an advanced position.
  5. Direct and indirect free kicks punish different offenses.
  6. A foul by the defending team in its penalty area may produce a penalty kick.
  7. Yellow and red cards communicate cautions and dismissals.
  8. The referee controls time, advantage, substitutions, and misconduct.

How the result is decided

A goal counts only when the whole ball crosses the line between the posts and beneath the crossbar without an attacking infringement. The team with more goals wins; tied knockout matches may add extra time and kicks from the penalty mark, separating ordinary match scoring from the tie-break procedure.
